Medical Secretary / Administrator

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly practice team on a temporary basis

The ideal candidate would have experience of using EMIS, good sound knowledge of medical terminology, and have worked as a Medical Secretary within the NHS.

You must be accurate, have good communication skills and be a team player.

The position available is for approximately 16 hours per week, covering the following shifts:

Monday: Off

Tuesday: 8 hours

Wednesday: Off

Thursday: 8 hours

Friday: Off

Total 16 hours

Please be advised that the shift times are negotiable.

Main duties of the job

You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of our busy GP practice, providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to clinicians and the wider team. You will provide a dedicated and friendly service to our patients alongside your colleagues. This will involve typing, word processing and general clerical work.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GP's and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals and minutes in an accurate and quality manner.

To deal with and action tasks and messages sent from clinicians.

To assist the practice manager and reception team with clerical and administrative duties.

To establish and maintain a filling and administrative system so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure.

To retrieve medical records and assist the completion of medical/insurance records.

To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to communicate with colleges and patients, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.

To maintain the computer clinical system in an accurate and secure manner.

To provide occasional cover for members of the admin team during periods of sickness and annual leave.

On occasion, process hospital documents, coding and scanning.

To receive and dispatch mail and maintain a pending system.
