Job summary

  1. Provide a high quality dispensing service.
  2. Dispensing medications, accurately checking type of medicine, quantity, strength and expiry date.
  3. Support patients, helping them with medication questions and queries.
  4. Help ensure that the use of dispensary resources are fully optimised and that the administrative systems of the dispensary operate effectively and efficiently.
  5. Assist the Dispensary Manager as directed.

You may have a dispensing qualification or may wish to work to gain one.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a part-time dispenser to our team. If you have a good eye for detail, enjoy customer service and are able to work in a methodical way this could be the job for you! We are a friendly team offering high quality care to our community.

We are looking for 19 hours per week, plus flexibility to help cover the service as required. Usual working hours:

Tuesday 9am until 5pm (30 mins unpaid break)

Wednesday 9.30 until 5pm (30 mins unpaid break)

Friday 1.30pm until 6pm.

Working within an experienced team we offer the opportunity to undertake and NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services to develop dispensing skills and gain knowledge about medicines.

Job responsibilities

Provide a professional, prompt and efficient service for all patients.

Follow Practice procedures in ensuring safe and accountable dispensing of drugs.

Ensure polite and helpful customer service.

Ensure efficiency of stock control, date rotation, re-ordering supplies as directed by the Dispensary Manager.

Follow all dispensary security arrangements in line with the Practice protocols, including security and correct administration of the controlled drugs cupboard.

Process prescriptions in line with Practice procedures, using computerised system as directed.

Ensure the safe disposal of drugs and sharps, in line with Practice procedures.

Ensure the correct procedure is followed with regard to receipt of monies, including taking payments for prescription items and cashing up.

Undertake audits as required by the Practice.

Liaise with members of the primary health care team, as required, and communicate information to them via the systems set up within the Practice.

  • Willingness and evidence of ability to undertake dispensary training/qualification

Desirable

  • NVQ 2 level Dispensing qualification
  • Grades A-C in GCSE English and Maths

Experience

Essential

  • Previous relevant experience of providing customer care
  • Evidence of the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Evidence of excellent attention to detail
  • Evidence of the ability to work independently using initiative, as well as part of a team
  • Evidence of keyboard competence/IT awareness
  • Evidence of an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality and discretion
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of flexibility and the ability to undertake additional hours, if required (eg sickness cover/annual leave cover)

  • Previous relevant experience of primary care/GP dispensary
  • Knowledge of EMIS
  • Previous experience of undertaking work of a confidential nature
