Job summary

The Kennet and Avon Medical Partnership is an expanding 11 doctor general practice based across 2 sites - Marlborough and Pewsey. We have an exciting opportunity for a Dispensary Assistant/ trainee Dispenser to join our dynamic Dispensing Team. Applications are welcome from experienced dispensers as well as those with no experience, as full training will be provided.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work a minimum of 25.5 hours over 3 days*, or up to 37.5 hours full time, to support delivery of an excellent and expanding service to our patients.

*25.5 hours as follows: 9:00 - 18:30 for 3 days a week to include Monday

The post holder will be based primarily in the Marlborough surgery, covering Pewsey surgery as and when required.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will join the Dispensing team to deliver the following:

  • Manage repeat medications
  • Handle patient queries regarding medications and prescriptions
  • Dispense medications
  • Check colleagues' dispensing
  • Stock management
  • Daily checks and appropriate recording of prescriptions and monies received
  • Respect the right to confidentiality of our patients
  • Support the KAMP mission, values and strategic goals.

Job responsibilities

Dispensing

Take prescription repeats over the counter, via email, through the clinical system and the website.

Generate monthly repeat prescriptions, liaising with clinicians where necessary.

Checking dispensed medications.

Hand out prescriptions and dispensed items.

Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate.

Participate in weekly monitored dose system orders.

Deal with patient queries and concerns relating to medication.

Undertake DRUMs (Dispensing Review of Use of Medicines) as required by the Dispensing Service Quality Scheme (DSQS).

Dispense acute prescriptions as required.

Purchasing and Stock Control

Ad hoc daily ordering of stock.

Maintain adequate stocks ensuring timely stock rotation and continued supply for patients.

Regularly identify and remove out of date stock from dispensary shelves and SystmOne.

Prepare stock control for end of year accounts.

Prescriptions and Prescription Monies

Daily check of prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort into paid/unpaid by doctor.

Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately stored and banked and a record kept of all financial transactions.

Keep up-to-date with new drugs and changes to legislation that might have an impact on the running of the dispensary, and highlight any concerns to the Team Leader.
