Job summary
This job is for a Mental Health Occupational Therapist based in Winchester.
Working independently, the post holder will manage a varied and
complex caseload providing OT assessment and intervention to patients aged 16
and over who are referred into the Primary Care Mental Health Team (PMHT) and
are identified as needing occupational therapy. The post holder will be
required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team offering advice &
recommendations to the team based on the outcome of assessments &
interventions carried out with patients. The post holder will be expected to
work within the limits of their professional competence, skills and knowledge
base.
Main duties of the job
Assess risks
and respond appropriately
Determine
intervention strategies in complex situations and patients with complex needs
Independently plan,
implement, evaluate and review treatment plans on an individual and group basis
Carry out
specialist occupational therapy techniques
Undertake home
assessments and treatment as appropriate
Carry out and
interpret formal standardised assessments
Actively engage
carers/families in the therapeutic process, motivating and supporting them to
take responsibility for decision making and goal setting
Manage and prioritise
case load independently
Recognise when
optimum levels of function have been reached and work towards a supportive
ending of current treatment with the patient
Analyse,
evaluate, interpret and communicate an overview of the patterns of referral,
interventions and outcomes of intervention
Actively
develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues and agencies

Winchester City PCN; the Friarsgate Practice, St Pauls Surgery and St Clements
Surgery. The PMHT is a multidisciplinary team, currently consisting of social
prescribers, wellbeing advisor, peer support worker and CBT practitioner, with
a view to expanding further to include other mental health roles. The post
holder will have excellent communication skills and will be an integral member
of the PMHT, supporting not only PMHT colleagues but also the wider practice
teams, community and secondary care services.

Occupational Therapist with a special interest in mental health to join the

The PMHT encourages practitioners to work holistically with
patients to achieve long-term health and wellbeing goals, utilising both
individual and group working skills for best outcomes. All members of the PMHT
are supported in their growth and development and will be expected to play a
part in service improvement of this new and important addition to primary care.
