Job summary

Are you a motivated Health Care Assistant looking for an exciting and varied job opportunity, with an innovative and forward thinking practice with an established and expanding team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistant?

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

The post will be suited to a Health Care Assistant with experience in administering vaccines and injections (B12), wound management, suture removal, performing ECGs, phlebotomy, health & lifestyle education, chronic disease monitoring skills, and stock ordering, or those looking to expand their skills and experience looking for a new and exciting role in Primary Care.

The BUNTINGFORD AND PUCKERIDGE MEDICAL PRACTICE is located in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, with road links to the A10 and A1. The practice serves a population of 19,800 patients across two practice sites.

The practice is a training practice for GP Registrars and is committed to mentorship and personal development of staff.

Job responsibilities

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and responsibilities:Duties and responsibilities:

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs

Maintain and clean equipment used by the nurses and GPs according to the practice Infection Control Policy

New patient and NHS health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Influenza vaccinations

Removal of stitches

Dressings

Chaperoning duties

Blood pressure monitoring

B12 injections

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations, including coil fitting.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Maintain the booking system for BP & ECG Monitors and processing of results

READ coding of results and letters

(subject to the completion of relevant training and competency sign-off)

Management of QOF Recall and Enhanced services reporting protocols

To be aware of national, local and practice quality standards for chronic disease management.

To provide support in correctly identifying and targeting patients for assessment and treatment.

To ensure staff are aware of the importance of maintaining disease registers and assist in the validation process.

To produce regular reports on the progress against practice targets.

To assist in the production of information for clinical audit
