Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team. The post is 18 hours per week to be worked Monday 8am-4pm, Wednesday and Friday 8am-1pm.

Main duties of the job

You will have 3 clinics per week which will include bloods tests, Annual Health Checks, B12s, ECGS etc. You will also be responsible for restocking of clinical rooms, processing samples and other duties outlined in the full description.

About us

We are a rural GP practice based alongside the River Teme at Knightwick with a population of approximately 5070 patients. We have 3 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses and one other HCA.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

New patient health checks

ECG recording

Phlebotomy

Chaperoning duties

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations where necessary

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Assist Practice Nurse and Doctors with the Quality & Outcomes Framework as assigned.

Participate with the annual Influenza programme and provide vaccinations to patients within the Patient Group Directive. This would include ad-hoc vaccinations where appropriately trained, work with the Practice where Public Health Initiatives are directed to the Practice (i.e. Pandemics etc).

Able to document Consultations and Patient Contacts according to NMC guidelines and to the Practice Standard Operating Procedures and Computer Templates.

Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
