Job summary

We are looking for a Medical Secretary to join our busy GP Practice. You will be responsible for a wide range of medical secretarial and admin duties and will provide administration support for the clinical team. The role is varied and requires medical secretary experience, excellent time management skills, and a willingness to adapt to changing demands.

Main duties of the job

To provide a full secretarial service to the GPs and healthcare professionals as required, this includes audio-typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, safeguarding and coroners reports etc. To assist with all clerical and administrative duties as required. To provide cover during periods of sickness and annual leave. Patient referrals including private referrals, e-RS referral service, Advice and Guidance referrals and replies. To check and deal with rejected referrals and redirect them as appropriate. Knowledge of the EMIS clinical system and e-referrals would be advantageous. The right person needs to have excellent typing/IT skills, be literate, responsible and a good communicator. The successful candidate needs to work well and accurately and be able to work alone and as part of a team and will need to be flexible to cover for holidays/sickness if required.

We deliver a wide range of services to our 8,000 patients with the support of our 4 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, Nurses and Health Care Assistant. We are also a training practice.

Job description Job responsibilities To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, safeguarding and coroners reports, etc. in an accurate and quality manner. To assist the Practice Manager/Operational Manager with all clerical and administrative duties. To make appointments, bookings and admissions as required. To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure. To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries and tasks To maintain the computer clinic system in an accurate and secure manner. To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required. To provide cover during periods of sickness and annual leave. Input and extract data from the clinical computer system. Retrieve and action emails Action and respond to Tasks from both clinicians and admin staff. The role of General Practice is continually changing and as such it is expected the above job description will change over time.
