Job summary

Southgates and The Woottons Surgeries are based in King's Lynn and we have a long and proud history of excellent patient care.

We are looking for a Prescription Clerk to join our friendly and professional dispensary team in serving our patients.

The working hours for this role are:

Monday: 09:00-16:00

Thursday: 09:00-16:00

Friday: 09:00-17:00

This is a permanent role for 20.50 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills as well as a level of competency in IT.

Ideally you will be a team player who has a eye for detail, can demonstrate outstanding communication skills, initiative, can self motivate and can prioritise your own workload.

About us

You would be part of a friendly & professional team of 5 Dispensers. The Practice has around 22,000 patients, so it is a busy but enjoyable working environment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Major duties and responsibilities (in no particular order or priority)

1. Dispensing

5. Special requirements of the post

1. Dispensing

a. To receive, record and dispense Repeat medicine requests. (Note: with regard to patients whose prescription review date has passed, a small quantity only of medicine should be issued, sufficient to sustain them until a review by their doctor can be made.)

b. To flag any medications requiring monitoring to a senior dispenser or GP prior to issuing repeat prescriptions.

c. To liaise with the doctors regarding requests from patients for medicines not on Repeat Prescription.

d. To print prescriptions for items used by district nurses and order items required by them.

e. To deal with dispensary-related patient enquiries when necessary.

f. Monitor effectiveness of the system and report any problems or variations required to the dispensary manager and general manager.

g. Be aware of the Government Policy regarding prescription charges and exemptions, that practice staff who sign for patients will be held liable for exemptions claimed unlawfully.

2. Stock control

a. To maintain adequate stock control with the aid of the computer.

b. To utilise stock in date order to minimise wastage caused by time-expired items.

c. To check drugs delivered each day, to enter onto computer and pass invoices for payment.

3. Security

a. To ensure that the appropriate security measures for the safeguarding of Controlled Drugs are in place when working in the Dispensary.

b. To ensure that the appropriate security measures are maintained in the dispensary whilst on duty and that any breaches of security are brought to the attention of the dispensary manager and General Manager ASAP.

4 Other duties

a. To ensure the cleanliness of the Dispensary and equipment at all times.

b. To maintain the smooth running of printers in the Dispensary and ensure that they are clean and inkjets filled.

c. At the end of the evening surgery, to count till money and ensure that the Drug Cupboard is locked.

d. At the end of the day, ensure that the dispensary is totally secured (windows and doors locked).

e. To undertake any other reasonable tasks appropriate to the post as required.

5. Special requirements of the post

a. An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.

b. An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge to respond to patients enquiries and requests.

c. Excellent communication skills.

d. Ability to self motivate, organise and prioritise own workload.
