Job summary

To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarial and administrative duties and the provision of administrative support to the multidisciplinary team. Duties can include, but are no limited to, the processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers in accordance with current policies, including the use of electronic referral service .

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Medical Secretary. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Typing letters, reports and associated documentation as required
  • Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
  • Managing all enquires in an effective manner
  • Maintaining an accurate referrals database
  • Processing letters as requested
  • Scanning of patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records
  • Processing referrals using the electronic referral system
  • Managing all administrative queries as necessary
  • Carrying out system searches as requested
  • Supporting all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested

Front Street Surgery is a GP Surgery in Acomb York. We have a great team of 4 Partners, 5 Salaried GP's, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 HCA's along with a growing Administration Team. We are a teaching practice and have a practice list of 8,100 patients.

We are looking for a Medical Secretary to join our team who has an ability to be calm and work under pressure, you must be a team player and has a can do attitude along with a good work ethic

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good Standard of Education -Minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above including English Language

Desirable

  • Keyboarding/typing qualification equivalent to RSA 3/OCR Advanced test/word processing or equivalent proven typing skills to a high standard (or working towards)
  • Audio Typing Qualification
  • Experience of using a patient information system
