Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Medical Secretary to join our Team at Abbey House Medical Practice.
The focus of this role is to provide a complete administration service to our GP's whilst maintaining patient confidentiality
and promoting the professional image of Abbey House Medical Practice.
This is a permanent full time position - 37.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday, 08.00-16.30.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an individual who
is approachable, empathetic, well organised, professional and able to work on their own initiative within their given remit. They must possess excellent communication skills to give a high level of service to our diverse cohort of patients. The successful
candidate must demonstrate excellent computer skills, good time management plus be able to actively listen to both patients and
colleagues.
Previous use of Microsoft Windows or SystmOne would be advantageous.
Previous experience working in General Practice or within the NHS is desirable.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Medical Secretary
RESPONSIBLE TO: Practice Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarial and administrative duties.
Duties can include, but are not limited to, the processing of information (electronic and hard copy) in a timely manner, liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers in accordance with current policies, including the use of the electronic referral service (ERS).
DUTIES TO INCLUDE
- Type all Doctor's correspondence and forms within an agreed timescale, or to notify the Doctor if this timescale will not be attained.
- To maintain task lists, actioning in appropriate time scale.
- Receive telephone requests for emergency and routine home visits and prepare visit lists, printing off summary of patient notes as required.
- Receive and distribute messages from outside agencies and other team members.
- Receive pathology results via telephone or electronically and inform patients of the results as requested by the doctor.
- Make hospital appointments for patients as requested by the doctor and inform the patient of the appointment date and time, arranging transport if necessary.
- Arrange medical appointments as required.
- Copy medical records for solicitors etc.
- Arrange invoices to be raised when appropriate.
- Transferring out patients from the surgery and forwarding notes to the Health Authority.
- Secretarial and administrative support for the practice Mental Health Nurse.
- Take telephone enquiries on Doctors behalf and return calls as necessary.
- Ensure that every consideration is given to patients and visitors at all times.
- Any other duties that may be required and agreed by the Doctors and Practice Manager.
