Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

About us

Located in the beautiful market town of Thirsk, we are a dynamic and respected 5 partner training practice. We are committed to providing high quality primary care services through an ethos of continuous learning and reflection. Implementing effective changes to the way we work, continuously striving to improve the ways we offer patient care, whilst ensuring all staff and patients are treated with dignity, honesty and respect.

We currently have 7700 Registered patients, have 15 minute appointments and a low home-visit rate. We dispense to approximately 1/3rd of patients.

Our medical team also includes a Physician Associate, 4 GP Registrars, 3 Practice Nurses, an ANP , a TNA and 2 HCA's. We are supported by PCN Pharmacists and Care-Coordinators. We have a large management, administration, reception and dispensary team to offer support to GPs.

We offer a range of dedicated clinics including chronic disease- Diabetic Group Consultations, Asthma/COPD, Heart Failure clinics. We offer a full range of Minor Ops and Implant/Coil Fitting and have Ring Pessary Clinics.

We hold monthly practice meetings, partners meetings, Vulnerable Adult, Safeguarding and GSF Meetings. We have a 3 monthly audit meetings and every 4 months we hold our own in-house staff training afternoon.

We put lots of emphasis on nurturing the team and there is an active social diary with some favourite events in the last year including a practice Scavenger Hunt and going to do the Bake off experience in Leeds.

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, eConsultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Actioning a share of blood results and incoming clinical documents, both paper and electronic

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Offering preventative advice

Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
