We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible part time Phlebotomist/Health Care Assistant to join our lively nursing team.
We are a busy and evolving South East London teaching Practice. We operate as a multi-disciplinary team across several sites and you must be prepared to work across all sites.
The successful candidate should already be qualified and up to date with Phlebotomy skills and have previous/recent experience of Health Care Assistant work in General Practice.
Ideally, you will be competent in basic treatment room care. This is inclusive of: information gathering, monitoring, recording and reporting of relevant vital signs (See Job Description). Knowledge and experience of simple wound care is an advantage.
IT skills are essential.
You will be supported to access ongoing development. Role relevant and mandatory training will be available
Main duties of the job
JOB DESCRIPTION
Phlebotomy sessions and clinical work to support the practice to provide defined and delegated aspects of patient care (Chronic disease and Health reviews and Injections) under the supervision of a qualified nurse / clinical pharmacists / GP / GP Lead at the practice and support the GP practice clinical team by undertaking a range of clinical support functions.
SCOPE:
Undertakes clearly defined and controlled clinical tasks for named patients referred by a health care professional. You will work in accordance with specified local and national protocols and guidelines.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertakes specified clinical activities and tests for named patients, within the scope of established clinical protocols, policies and procedures, including venepuncture, urine testing, pulse, blood pressure readings, ECG's, weight & height and BMI monitoring, audio / memory / vision assessments and basic HCA medicals.
- Undertakes a range of clinical support functions including preparing and stocking the clinical areas in line with individual practice protocols.
- Provides relevant health information to patients and carers within defined protocols.
- Orders and maintains stock of Health Information Leaflets / literature.
- At all times observes infection control procedures to protect yourself, patients and colleagues.
- Assists in maintaining a safe working environment for yourself, patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team, alerting other members of the Practice team to issues of quality and risk identified in work with patients.
- Works within established systems of clinical governance, contributing as appropriate to the practice including audit activity.
- Managing clinical waste as per practice guidelines.
- Conveys relevant information and receives feedback from Nurse / Clinical Pharmacists / GP’s at the practice.
- Orders and maintains stocks of equipment as directed / required.
- Have a full awareness and understanding of the current GMS contract as well as DES / LES and QOF requirements for the practice.
