Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Up to date knowledge of current issues on contraceptive practice and womens health, sexuality and sexual health.
  • Ability to maintain and monitor high standards of care.
  • Understanding the role, values, procedures and standards of family planning and sexual health services.
  • Evidence of experience in embracing and implementing change to provide high quality health outcome.
  • Ability to work in a sensitive, confidential and non-judgemental manner.
  • Ability to discuss sexual health issues with clients regardless of gender, age, culture, sexual orientation and disability.
  • Awareness of and understanding child protection issues.
  • Accurately carry out health assessments and continue to monitor patients as needed.
  • Undertake diagnostic tests including cervical cytology.
  • Provide pre and post-test counselling.
  • To undertake home visits for patients who are housebound
  • Promote health and wellbeing
  • Fitting and removal of contraceptive implants.
  • Fitting and removal of intrauterine device or intrauterine system.
  • Support and mentor other colleagues/students within the practice

General Duties

  • To maintain comprehensive, accurate and contemporaneous computerised records of all consultations and contacts with patients and when appropriate written or printed records.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care.

  • Making any necessary referrals to other members of the primary health care team.
  • Refer patients directly to other services or agencies as appropriate
  • Providing assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice.
  • Undertake pathological specimens and investigatory procedures
  • Support and mentorship to other colleagues within the practice who are seeing similar patients.
  • Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualised patient care
  • Offer a holistic service to patients and their families, developing where appropriate an on-going plan of care and support, with an emphasis on prevention and self-care
  • Contribute to the practice achieving its quality targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery
  • Help develop and set up new patient services and participate in initiatives to improve existing patient services
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • A duty to advise senior members of staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
