Job summary
Due to expansion of the nursing team we are recruiting a Practice Nurse to join our friendly practice team. This is a varied and interesting role, working with our patients, nurse colleagues, GPs, HCAs and other members of the team.
We are looking for an individual preferably with experience of working in a primary care environment, but we are also interested in hearing from nurses who are looking to move into primary care. Training and clinical supervision would be available for the right candidate.
The practice delivers medical and nursing services to a diverse population including a significant number of students. Experience or interest in minor illness; sexual health; health promotion and mental health would be beneficial. This role will include delivery of nursing services to students at a central Oxford University College with an opportunity to become involved in wider college life.
We seek an individual with an enthusiasm for learning; excellent communication and IT skills; effective time management and prioritisation skills and with the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Nurse provides primary care nursing support, patient interventions and treatment within the Practice. As part of the general practice team they will work within their scope of practice and be responsible for providing patient-centred, culturally appropriate, and individual holistic care to patients. This includes:
Follow-up of patient test results and communication with patients where appropriate.
Undertaking treatment options and carrying out appropriate clinical interventions and procedures.
Health screening, including NHS health checks, Asthma review, Diabetic review; Cervical screening.
On-going well-health education and advice, including counselling to improve health and prevent disease.
Use of recall and reminder systems and referral, as appropriate, to national screening programmes.
Family planning services, provision of contraceptive advice and sexual health services.
Delivery of immunisation programmes.
On-going care and support for people with chronic and terminal conditions.
h) Health promotion to the practices enrolled population, linking to public health programmes at a national, regional and local level and utilising such programmes to target specific populations
About us
We are a busy and friendly GMS practice with approximately 13500 patients. The practice team work well together to deliver medical and nursing services to a diverse population including a significant number of students. We believe in supporting ongoing training and education for all staff and clinical supervision and regular clinical meetings will be provided. As part of the Oxford Central PCN you will have the opportunity to liaise with the other PCN practice nurses.
