Throckley Primary Care is looking to appoint a part-time Practice Nurse to join our innovative, forward-thinking training practice.
The post holder(s) will be committed to working as part of a multi-disciplinary team developing and delivering high quality primary care services to improve outcomes for patients. Providing and facilitating safe and effective clinical care.
Throckley is an old mining village, and the sense of community remains very strong. This is a rare chance to experience family practice in the true sense of the word.
Throckley Primary Care is a 2 partner practice providing a high standard of medical care to 7,500 patients. The practice is on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Practice is committed to the continuous development of staff and will offer the opportunity for the successful applicant(s) to continue to develop their own areas of interest wherever possible.
Main duties of the job
- Consult with patients, perform the nurse related duties as detailed in job description.
- Long Term Condition management ranging from provision of structured clinics, supporting self-management through to management of people with complex co-morbidities
- Consultations skills and promoting behaviour change

- Cervical sampling

- Diabetic care (including foot checks)

- Subcutaneous administration of hormones

Give telephone advice and undertake administration as is normally expected of a Practice Nurse.
Take part in the in-house educational program.
Contribute to the management of QoF and Enhanced Services.
About us
Throckley Primary Care is a busy, friendly, and supportive practice. Our team includes 5 salaried GPs, practice nurse, health care assistants, phlebotomists, pharmacy technician and administrative support team.
We have daily clinical meetings where all team members get together to discuss the working day and any clinical problems.
We are an active member of the Outer West Primary Care Network, the additional roles include medicines management team, 4 counsellors, 4 social prescribing link workers, dietician, frailty nurse & frailty HCA, primary care mental health worker, first contact physio, children and young people's mental health worker. Clinical and non-clinical staff can refer to all of these.

The core responsibilities will include the following areas although this list is not designed to be exhaustive and on occasion other tasks may reasonably be added which are commensurate to the role:
- Chronic Disease Management / Year of Care
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care
- Cytology
- Wound care
- Removal of Sutures
- Health Checks
- Travel Clinic
- ECGs
- BP monitoring
- Asthma
- Venepuncture
- Routine immunisations
- Childhood immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate, who are being examined by another clinician
- Contribution to the Practice Quality and Outcomes framework and Quality Schemes as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms
- Ordering of vaccinations and supplies to maintain stock levels
- Other competence areas:
- Assist patients to identify their health needs in a supportive and caring manner
- Maintain accurate records at all times.
- A duty to advise colleagues of any issues or concerns relating to individual patients
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
- Manage own workload efficiently and identify improvements
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols as appropriate
- Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained
