Job summary

We are looking for a full time practice nurse to join the Hardwicke House Group Practice and become part of our highly motivated nursing team. You may be a newly qualified nurse, have experience in other fields of nursing or an experienced practice nurse; to us, your attitude and compassion are fundamental. We are a forward thinking practice with an emphasis on education and quality improvement. Therefore, your individual learning and development needs will be encouraged and supported. Main duties of the job

Duties and responsibilities of the role:

It is not expected that you will already have experience and training in all fields listed below, this list is provided to give you an insight into services that we provide to our patients and the role you may have within the team.

Adult and child immunisations.

Long term condition support; asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHD and hypertension

Wound care management

Minor injuries

Cervical screening

Womens health

Health promotion

Support and training of students

Good sense of friendship, a team player and a sense of humour

About us

We are a long established practice with 5 surgeries in and around Sudbury. We have a patient list of 24,000 and have 7 GP partners, 5 salaried GPs, an ANP, 8 nurses, 3HCAs, 2 clinical pharmacists, a pharmacy technician and 70 other colleagues supporting our clinical teams. We are a dispensing practice and lead surgery for Sudbury PCN. We are a training practice for Cambridge University medical and University of Suffolk nursing students. Although a large surgery, within our workforce there is a great sense of friendship and we create a very enjoyable working atmosphere. We are really looking forward to having a new member, to show our passion and desire for excellent patient care within the primary care setting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

General:

  • Work in a confidential, reliable, honest, flexible, effective and efficient manner.
  • Liaise with: doctors, nursing team, district and other community nurses and practitioners, CCG, NHSE, PHE, dispensary and reception teams.
  • Deal with patients in a polite and efficient manner.
  • Abide by current Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Comply with practice policies and procedures in respect of infection control, sharps, handling and security of drugs, &etc.
  • Ensure the surgery premises, staff and visitors are protected at all times by identifying to the appropriate team members or management any areas of concern.
  • Work within the NMC Code of Practice.
  • Answer patient queries on medication in liaison with the doctors and dispensers.

Administrative Tasks:

Ensure all appropriate information is accurately recorded on the patients electronic medical record.

Attend regular primary care meetings as required.

Maintain personal professional registration and development including: attending training and courses, update workshops, reading professional journals, electronic resources (e.g. NeLH and other websites), research, or any other appropriate means, and as directed by the Senior Practice Nurse.

Perform stock checks (i.e. stock levels, rotation and checking expiry dates) and order supplies to ensure treatment room stock levels are maintained

Ensure equipment is maintained in treatment and consulting rooms.

Contribute to and engage in clinical audit and research.

Any other task as required by the Nurse Manager, Partners or Practice Business Manager.

Clinical tasks:

Subject to the appropriate training, tasks may include:

Vaccinations & immunisations

Blood pressure readings

Suture removal

Taking blood samples

Wound care

Cervical cytology

Asthma checks

Diabetes, support to diabetic nurse

CHD

ECG recording

General dressings/ulcer dressings

Provide health screening and general nursing to the practice population.
