JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist - Healthcare
Assistant - Maternity Cover
REPORTS TO: Practice
Nurse Lead
HOURS: 24Hours per week
Job Summary
To assist in patient care and
practice related duties working under the direct supervision of the Surgery
Doctors/Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific Practice
guidelines and protocols. The Phlebotomist - Health Care Assistant will work collaboratively
with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy
and procedures.
The Phlebotomist - Health Care Assistant will be
required to support the practice team in providing high quality primary care
services to the patients registered with the Practice. The Phlebotomist - Health Care
Assistant needs to practice in a safe and confident manner, respecting the
principles of health, safety, infection control and security at all times.
The Phlebotomist- Health Care Assistant will be
required to attend all appropriate updates and refresher courses within the
timeframes specified for the clinical tasks in question. They will also need
the relevant sign off for any new procedures by the relevant competent person.
This will take into account any new or amended policies, protocols and
procedures relating to any aspect of clinical practice.

Application of basic dressings (under direction
of Practice Nurse)
24hr BP Monitors
Administration of influenza and other
appropriately trained vaccines
Chaperoning duties
Hypertension reviews
NHS Health Checks
Diabetic Foot Reviews
Alcohol reviews
Processing and management of laboratory samples
as requested by the GPs.
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, cleaning
and recording.
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Preparing and maintaining environments and
equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including
assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
Undertaking specific clinical activities for
named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to
that individual.
Helping raise awareness of health and well-being
and how it can be promoted.
Maintain accurate records (both computerised and
hand- written) at all times.
Undertake administrative support as required
including calling Patients for recalls and booking in Long Term Condition Reviews if instructed.
Assisting with the collation of data on needs
related to health and well-being.
Attending Clinical Governance meetings
Active member of the Nurse Team, providing
suggestions for improvement where needed.
Carrying out other duties as reasonable required
that is neither exhaustive or inclusive as well.

directed by the Practice Nurses, Manager or Partners.

In the performance of the duties outlined in
this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential
information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other
healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the
Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to
be regarded as strictly confidential.

colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only
be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and
procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and
sensitive data.
