Job summary
We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant to our established Nursing Team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policies and procedures.
You will be required to support the practice team in providing high quality primary care services to the patients registered with the Partnership, working in a safe and confident manner and respecting the principles of health, safety, infection control and security at all times.
This role is offered at between 16-24 hours per week, but this can be flexible depending on the candidate.
Main duties of the job
Our Healthcare Assistants undertake a varied role, including:
- Vital Sign recording B.P. /Weight/Pulse etc
- Taking of ECGs
- Phlebotomy
- INRs using INR star
- Urinalysis and processing/management of on the day samples
- Administration of vaccines, including Flu/Shingles/Pneumococcal
- Chaperone duties
- General Lifestyle advice, including Health promotion/Smoking/Weight/Alcohol and Referral
- Hypertensive reviews
- NHS Health checks
- Diabetic foot reviews
- Post-op wound care & dressings
- Minor op assistant
- Chaperoning
- Room stocking
Undertake any other duty deemed reasonable as directed by the Nurse Lead, Manager or Partners.
The nursing team at Oak Street Medical Practice are friendly and supportive, and participation at regular team meetings and training sessions is encouraged.
We are a SystmOne practice and some experience with this system would be an advantage.

We are a forward-thinking, friendly and inclusive General Practice which comprises two GP partners, salaried GPs, highly-skilled nursing staff and an effective admin team.
We operate from one location and provide quality care to c.7,500 patients in Norwich. We host a number of other services, including a PCN pharmacist, PCN physiotherapy service and Vasectomies. We are also a Research accredited practice.
We have excellent working relationships with neighbouring practices, working collaboratively as part of the Norwich Primary Care Network.

To assist in patient care and practice related duties working under the direct supervision of the Surgery Doctors/Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols. The Health Care Assistant will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.
The Health Care Assistant will be required to support the practice team in providing high quality primary care services to the patients registered with the Practice. The Health Care Assistant needs to practice in a safe and confident manner, respecting the principles of health, safety, infection control and security at all times
The Health Care Assistant will be required to attend all appropriate updates and refresher courses within the timeframes specified for the clinical tasks in question. They will also need the relevant sign off for any new procedures by the relevant competent person. This will take into account any new or amended policies, protocols and procedures relating to any aspect of clinical practice.
