Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic, organised and highly motivated individual to join our team as Lead Nurse. This is a new up to full time role here at Captain French Surgery and provides an opportunity to build on your strengths, be involved in facilitating and driving change and contribute to the substantive development of the nursing team whilst fulfilling a clinical role within the practice.
We offer a stable working pattern usually Monday to Friday with an expectation to participate in our Thursday evening where we close late at 8.30pm.
Our focus is excellent patient care whilst providing a great place to work and this new role is pivotal in its delivery.
We would also welcome applications from individuals who are ready and and have the skills to develop into this position, and we are willing to support the New to Practice Fellowship 2 year programme.

Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have substantial nursing experience, be proficient in leading and developing a nursing team and provide support and mentorship. You will be involved at a strategic level, embracing change, implementing new processes and promoting organisational context within the nursing team.
You will maintain direct patient contact on a daily basis, depending on your areas of expertise, fulfilling a varied clinical role.

Captain French Surgery is a modern purpose built medical centre in the market town of Kendal with easy transport links both north and south and a choice of excellent schools locally. We have a growing list of over 10900 patients who consistently report very high levels of satisfaction.
Our team consists of 7 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 3 nurses, an assistant practitioner and 2 health care assistants. We also have a full complement of ARRS roles.

Management Responsibilities
- Work with the partners and management team to implement the Practice strategy supporting the Practice vision of Excellent patient care, great place to work
- Participate in maximising income ensuring nursing processes are in place for QOF, IIF, QIS, ES etc
- Ensure templates and coding complements requirements, assisting with compliance across the nursing team
- Enable the nursing team to work effectively and provide a high quality service to patients and work collaboratively with other stakeholders
- Key player in workforce planning working within budgets
- Monitor and advise on effective use of resources by the Practice Nursing team
- Enable the Practice Nursing team to apply and improve clinical governance and risk management systems
- Develop and implement policies, standards and guidelines ensuring compliance across the Practice Nursing team
- Allocate, coordinate and assess the work of the Practice Nursing team and individuals
- Supervise and appraise Practice Nursing team performance and development
- Offer and provide clinical supervision to other members of the Practice Nursing team
- Develop a working environment that promotes healthy, safe and effective outcomes
- Infection Prevention and Control and COSHH Lead completing relevant audit and monitoring practice according to CQC requirement including relevant KLOES
Clinical Skills and Responsibilities
- Carry out comprehensive assessment including physical, mental, emotional and social health
- Where the post holder is an independent prescriber, prescribe safe, effective and appropriate medication as defined by current legislative framework
- Provide a service to patients who require a same day appointment and to provide follow up to that care if appropriate
- Telephone triage as appropriate
- Initiate investigations to establish a diagnosis where appropriate
- Report directly on the pathology reports where appropriate
- Develop with the patient, and family when appropriate, an ongoing plan for health with an emphasis on prevention and self-care
- Follow-up and evaluate the plan of care
- Refer directly to professional agencies in accordance with local guidelines
- Make and accept referral
- Management of patients with long term conditions
- Keep accurate and timely patient records
- Provide support and guidance for other as necessary
- Work within the boundaries of the Practice protocols
Administration and professional responsibilities
- Maintain registration with the NMC
- To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the NMC
- Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes and computerised record according to practice policy
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports and audit
- Develop practice protocols as required and assist in the development of computerised templates
- With nursing colleagues undertake risk assessments of Treatment Rooms
- Attend and participate in practice meetings as required
- Participate in annual performance reviews
