Job summary
We are looking to recruit a part time Counter Assistant to work in our busy dispensary for 20 hours per week.
No experience necessary as full training will be provided.

The hours will cover 4 mornings a week, 9:00 - 13:00 and one afternoon (Thursday) a week 14:00-18:00
We would consider a job share if more than one applicant wanted fewer hours.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the dispensary, helping
Dispensers and Dispensary Assistants in specific areas such as maintaining stock and dealing with
patients on a one-to-one basis at the dispensary collection counter.
All training will be provided and you will be under the supervision of dispensary staff at all times.
About us
New Barn Close Surgery is a dispensing GP surgery located in Broadway, Worcestershire, with 3 GP partners and 4 salaried GP's providing primary care services to approximately 8000 patients.
We are a training practice for Specialist Trainee GP doctors and have a rotating final year medical student from Birmingham University.
We moved into our new surgery in October 2021 which provides us with a modern purpose built building to meet all our patient and staff needs. We have ample car parking for staff and patients, including electric car charging points.
We have a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, HCAs and phlebotomist's, dispensing staff, care-co-coordinator, administrative and reception staff.
We have an onsite dispensary which serves approximately 50% of our patients.
Our close-knit team is committed to offering high quality, safe and effective care with a focus on providing excellent patient access and continuity of care.
We are a friendly welcoming team and pride ourselves in the communication between colleagues and after morning surgery clinicians gather for coffee, wellbeing and general catch-up and review any practice issues, patients, and referrals.

Job responsibilities
To assist in the dispensary, helping Dispensers and Dispensary Assistants in specific areas and dealing with patients on a one-to-one basis at the dispensary collection counter.
Specific Tasks:
- Acting as a point of contact the post holder will provide a polite and courteous welcome to visitors and callers to the surgery
- Processing of the stock order to the wholesaler
- Take receipt of payments for repeat and acute prescriptions
- Check off the order received from the wholesaler
- Add stock to computer system
- Stock the shelves
- Ensure the dispensary is administered efficiently
- Understand the need for discretion and confidentiality at all times relating to patients and staff
- Labelling of prescriptions for dispensers to check
- Assist in the assembly of dosettes with the dispenser on a rota basis
Daily Responsibilities:
- Receive telephone enquiries from patients in relation to their medication and action as appropriate.
- Deal with incoming and outgoing communications in accordance with the practice policies and procedures.
- Gain a good knowledge of the linked computer drug ordering system.
- Gain an adequate knowledge of the EMIS patient system.
- Maintain a level of stationery and office supplies in the dispensary.
- Keep the collection hatch and other areas of the dispensary tidy and administrative systems to ensure that they reflect the current position.
- Ensure that essential systems and filing are maintained.
- Maintain a high standard of confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety at work.
- Actively participate in training as required.
- Actively participate in annual appraisals.
- Actively participate in the monthly dispensary meetings.
- Report significant events to the Dispensary Supervisor.
- Any other duties that may be required and agreed with the Dispensary Supervisor
