Job summary
We are a busy practice in South Lewisham looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team.
The Healthcare Assistant will share responsibility for the treatment room and the performance of routine nursing related duties.
Previous experience of GP practice and EMIS would be an advantage. Must be able to work under pressure, be organised, have good communication skills and be part of a dynamic and supportive team.
Main duties of the job
Phlebotomy duties.
To take and, where appropriate, despatch laboratory specimens including blood,urine, swabs and other diagnostic tests as required by GPs.
Carrying out blood pressure checks.
To advise patients on health care, minor ailments, health promotion and illness prevention.
To support the nursing team in:- Antenatal clinics, Diabetic clinics, Flu clinics, Minor operations, Coil and Implant clinics
To undertake basic wound care and suture/clip removal, assisting the nurses.
To undertake NHS Health checks
To administer flu, pneumonia, and B12 injections having been adequately trained.
To assist in the management of the treatment room, stock control and ordering of drugs, leaflets and medical supplies.
To ensure that all medical equipment is regularly and adequately maintained and in date and ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked with medical equipment etc.
To ensure that fridge temperatures are regularly monitored.
To maintain high standards of tidiness, hygiene and safety in the use of all equipment and areas of work, in line with the Practice Infection Control Policy
To attend course and study days as required or thought necessary to maintain high standards.

Care Assistant having attained suitable training and adequate supervised
practical experience, including:
NHS health checks
Blood pressure monitoring
Diabetic Health Checks Care processes
SMI Health Checks
Administer Flu vaccinations under PSD
B12, Shingles, Pneumococcal vaccination under
PSD
Removal of sutures/clips
Simple & Complex dressing (under supervision of the practice nurse
team
Phlebotomy
Carrying out Urinalysis and recording the results in line with
practice protocol
Act as a chaperone for other clinicians if required
Undertake clinical activities identified by the clinical team in
accordance with agreed written protocols
Report and escalate changes in patient condition
Recognises urgent signs of illness and escalate accordingly
Make clear and accurate entries into a patients records when
appropriate
Provide health promotion materials to patients as and when required
Stocking consulting rooms
Prepare clinical areas, including equipment for specific clinical
sessions (eg. minor operations/coil clinic) as and when requested
Record fridge temperatures and escalate any cold chain breech to the
Lead Practice Nurse or Nurse Manager
Support the nursing team to maintain good infection control throughout
the practice including participation of IPC audits
Ordering stock supplies
Attend practice meeting as requested
Maintain good working relationships with other clinicians and staff
members.
