JOB DESCRIPTION
NURSE MANAGER
The post is part-time 30 hours
per week working over four days per week. You will be working for Drs Gilchrist and Fulford at the
Tutbury Health Centre, Monk Street, Tutbury, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Hours: 30 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to
do holiday and sickness cover which will raise the hours you normally do. It is expected a holiday and relief rota will
be produced by the Nurse Manager which will incorporate the other Practice
Nurses employed at the Practice. All
staff including the nurse team are expected to work at both the Practices
sites; Sudbury and Tutbury.

General description of
the post:
You
will be responsible for leading and delivering the general practice nurse
duties for the Practice's registered patient population. This will encompass
patient facing and managerial responsibilities as well as organisational
leadership and the management of the delivery of evidence based practice for
patients seen by the nursing team. You will be working with a multidisciplinary
team comprising of doctors, Physician Associate, clinical pharmacist, dispensers, admin and
reception staff. It is important to work collaboratively with all staffing
groups including attached staff such as the District Nursing team in order that
patients receive the best standard of clinical care which will meet their
needs. You will proactively engage in updating, reviewing and producing
policies associated with the delivery of primary care nursing services and
inform and disseminate to the rest of the nursing team. You will work closely
with the Practice Manager and doctors to deliver the Practice priorities often
driven by the Quality Outcome Framework
(QOF), the local Quality Improvement Framework (QIF) and the Investment
and Impact Fund (IIF)
The
nurses will develop and work to programmes of care for the patients of the Dove River
practice. This includes development of
programmes of chronic and long term care.
The Nurse Manager will have managerial responsibility for the efficient
organisation of the treatment rooms at both sites.
Treatment Room Duties:
To
provide nursing services to patients of the Practice including treatment,
screening and advice within the professional competence of the post holder
(extra training will be provided before new duties are undertaken). The Nurse Manager will work in accordance
with the UKCC Code of Conduct
To
be available as a resource for self-referral by patients with all types of
wounds and minor ailments. To assess and
either treat or refer such patients
- To change
dressings, remove sutures, syringe ears and administer injections as
required.
- To perform tests
such as ECG, blood and urine.
- To perform
venepuncture and cervical smears and be responsible for safe collection
and transportation of specimens.
Health Promotion and Disease Prevention:
- To provide the
overall management of health promotion and chronic disease programme to
include auditing.
- To provide general
and specific health screening to the practice population (within agreed
protocols) and as delegated by the general practitioners with reference to
general practitioners as necessary.
- To be responsible
for the long term management of patients with chronic conditions.
- To advise patients
opportunistically on general health care and promote a healthy lifestyle.
- To be responsible
for immunisations in line with agreed protocols.
Managerial
and Administrative Duties: Note you will normally have 50% of the week dedicated to
these duties but this can be reviewed in line with business needs requirements.
To act as the Nurse
Manager for the nursing and Health Care Support Workers working in the treatment rooms in order to:
Promote
co-operative working
Facilitate
their professional development
Identify
and address training needs
Undertake
annual appraisals
To organise efficient
management of the Practice Nursing Areas, including:
Ordering
supplies, vaccines, equipment, etc
Organise
an effective routine and holiday rota
Maintain
and effect an appropriate health and safety policy
Manage the rotas for the nursing team.
To
liaise with other members of the primary health care team and other agencies in
order to assure appropriate care is provided for the practice population including:
Infection
Control Lead for the Practice
Nurse target Quality related areas that fall under the CQC inspection requirements
Responsible for the
administration, maintenance and development of clinical policies specific to
the nursing team
Undertaking
relevant searches as and when required.
Analysing
statistical data and acting upon results
Proactively discussing
with the GPs opportunities to move towards innovative ideas.
To take on some of the
clinical audit work
Develop policies within
the practice and provide nursing input to any decision making processes
affecting the care of patients.
To take a lead in an area of Special
Clinical Interest as agreed with the Partners
Manage all aspects of Cytology:
Cervical Cytology Lead for the Practice
Lab reports and reporting on Open Exeter
Recall dates, etc
Professional
Development:
To maintain
professional development by attending courses and study days as arranged with
the general practitioners.
To participate in
research within the practice.
To teach and support members of the team and other
learners such as Trainee Registrar, about care delivery from an experienced
nurse.
The post holder must be
in possession of a current UKCC PIN and maintain current membership of a
professional organisation, e.g. RCN.
The post holder must
participate in the Revalidation process as per the NMC guidelines and is
responsible for achieving their own revalidation and to coordinate and agree a
plan of revalidation with the other Practice Nurses in their team at Tutbury
with support from the Practice.

authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures
relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data
