Job summary
Hull Family Practice is a busy teaching practice serving 38,000 patients. We are looking to recruit a part time Prescription Administrator to join our busy Pharmacy Team. The working hours are upto 24 hours per week over 3 or 4 days. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established and high performing practice to improve the service we offer to patients whilst supporting the GP's.
You will provide a friendly, confident and professional service to our patients. You will be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills. You will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team; to use initiative and discreation.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate for the Prescription Administration position must be an enthusiastic and organised person who is able to work flexibly and effectively as part of a large team. Ideally you would have previous experience working in General Practice in a busy environment but this is not essential for the right candidate. You must be IT competent, be polite with an excellent telephone manner as well as great interpersonal and face to face communication skills.

We are a large friendly teaching practice serving 38,000 patients within the East and West Hull area. We have 10 GP Partners, a team of Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, a Physiotherapist, a team of Nurses/HCA's and a large team of administration staff including receptionists.
We are based in modern purpose built health centre's that we share with a number of other NHS services and we believe in providing all our patients with the best possible experience and health outcomes.

Key tasks and responsibilities
- To answer the telephone promptly and politely
- To process repeat prescriptions daily that have been requested online via
ETP or email
- To generate patient requests for prescription items not on their list by
sending a task to the duty doctor or liaising with the Pharmacists / Pharmacy
Technicians were appropriate
- To ensure correct protocols are followed regarding ordering and tracking
of controlled drugs and restricted item requests
- In line with practice policy, process appliance scripts
- Promote cost effective prescription at the practice through switching
drugs in line with practice policy as delegated by Pharmacists, Pharmacy
Technicians and Medicines Management CCG teams.
- Communicate effectively with patients via telephone, letter or Accurx
regarding medication requests and reviews as requested by the GP, Pharmacists
or Pharmacy Technicians
- Deal with medication changes from hospital letters, removing old
medication and adding new ones
- Working closely with other members of the Pharmacy Team and acting upon
any relevant prescribing changes as instructed to assist with QOF compliance
and prescribing targets
- Perform searches and act upon alerts if appropriate
- Expedite urgent prescription requests to the relevant person. If a
Pharmacy Technician is not present, then to seek a Pharmacist for advice. If
neither no Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician, then to be sent to the Duty
Doctor to ensure a safe and responsive service for our patients
- Support new staff with the prescription service process
- Ensure you are keeping patient information updated and the patient
information is secure and always remains confidential
- Keep up to date prescribing inline with the Joint Formulary and
restricted drug list
- Highlight under or over usage of medication to Pharmacists, Pharmacy
Technicians or GP where appropriate
- Undertake training as requested to support effective services for the practice
