Sherbourne Medical Centre is a long established 9,700 patient NHS GP Practice, based Royal Leamington Spa town center. We are a well-established Training and Research practice with five GP's and GP Trainee Registrars as well as an ANP, 2 Practice Nurses and and a Health Care Assistant.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Notes Summariser to join our friendly team on a permanent basis. The position is for a minimum of 8 hours a week, with additional overtime available. This could be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the surgery or candidate.

Our Medical Summariser, will review all paper notes sent to the surgery and ensure that the Patient Database is correct and up to date. This role is a key part of the surgeries administrative team and supports our Doctors prescribing.

Main duties of the job

Our Medical Summariser reviews Lloyd George notes for new patients registering at the surgery and ensures that all relevant up to date medical information is held on the electronic record. You may also be involved in read coding medical conditions so a good understanding of medical terminology is essential.

You will need to have the skills to resolve and manage issues as they arise, be able to prioritise your workload, work within a team setting. You will also need to have a consistent and compassionate approach with our service users at all times.

The post holder will be reliable, trustworthy, have excellent attention to detail, good communication skills, time keeping and organisational abilities and ideally experienced in summarising on EMIS. Training can be given if required.

Job Summary:

  1. To provide efficient and accurate administrative support read coding of patient notes;
  2. To ensure that all administrative duties are carried out in line with the practices guidelines and policies;
  3. To assist in ensuring that the needs of the practice are met at all times, offering support to other team members when necessary.

Main Duties/Key Tasks:

Clinical Summaries

  • Culling and sorting patient records and letters in preparation for summarising
  • Reviewing and interpreting medical records to produce a comprehensive summary of patients medical history
  • Read coding the information into the Practice Clinical System
  • Monitoring progress of notes summarising against Practice Targets
  • Filing and retrieving notes and paper work
  • Keeping a methodical system of filing allowing for the quick retrieval of files
  • Assisting with complex workflow for coding
  • Auditing data collection to ensure Practice Standards are met

Other Tasks

  • Read coding of other Patient documentation as required
  • Any other tasks as requested by the Practice Operations Manager or GP Partner
