    • Accurately taking and relaying messages
    • Assisting receptionists with administrative tasks (e.g., booking appointments, relaying messages from GPs)

Main duties of the job

As a telephonist in a GP surgery, your main duties include:

  1. Greeting and Booking In Patients:

    • Welcome patients as they arrive at the surgery.
    • Check their details against scheduled appointments for the day.
    • Direct patients to the waiting area and explain the process.
  2. Answering Phone Calls and Taking Messages:

    • Handle incoming calls from patients.
    • Triage callers to appropriate services (e.g., scheduling appointments, providing advice).
    • Remain calm and clear, especially when dealing with urgent or distressed callers.
  3. General Telephonist Tasks:

    • Explain procedures to patients.
    • Assist with appointment bookings.
    • Relay results over the phone or pass urgent results to a doctor
