Treatment Room Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for a confident and compassionate treatment room nurse with some experience in general practice to join our busy GP practice. The role involves delivering high-quality nursing care in the treatment room, supporting GPs and healthcare professionals in managing patient care efficiently. There will be the possibility to train and grow to take on a fuller general practice nursing role over time. The position could suit a newly qualified nurse, or a nurse looking to transition into general practice from another setting.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a wide range of clinical procedures in the treatment room including wound assessment and management, dressing application and removal, injections (e.g., flu, travel vaccines), venipuncture, ECGs, and basic health screenings.
  • Assist GPs and other healthcare professionals with minor surgical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout.

  • Administer vaccinations and immunizations following national protocols and practice policies, including childhood and adult programs.

  • Monitor and maintain stocks of clinical supplies, ensuring proper storage and expiry checks.

  • Maintain and audit infection control standards to comply with local and national guidelines, promoting safety.

  • Manage patient appointments for treatment room clinics, ensuring efficient use of time and resources.

  • Provide health education and advice, promoting self-care and lifestyle changes where appropriate.

  • Accurately document patient interactions, treatments, and observations per NHS standards, ensuring confidentiality and data protection.

  • Identify patients needing follow-up or referral and liaise with the wider practice team to coordinate care.

  • Participate in clinical and team meetings, contributing to professional development and service improvements.

  • Support practice-wide initiatives such as audits, vaccination campaigns, and quality improvement projects as directed by the practice manager or clinical lead.
