12 Month fixed term contract for up to 6 Sessions Salaried GP - Sessions Flexible.

We have a great opportunity for an enthusiastic GP to join our vibrant and friendly teaching Practice serving 7,300 patients in the seaside village of Marske by the sea with close links to a wide range of amenities in the Teesside area. The North Yorkshire Moors are nearby as well as easy access to superb seaside towns up and down the coastal area.

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

We are a well established forward thinking GMS practice comprising 5 GP partners, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner Partner, 2 Emergency Care Practitioners, 1 Clinical Pharmacist, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA and 1 Phlebotomist supported by an excellent reception/admin team.

We are a training practice and currently train GP registrars, 3rd and 4th year medical students. We are a member of Redcar Coastal PCN and work closely with neighbouring practices. Outside clinical interests are encouraged and supported.

We have an overall CQC rating of GOOD.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone/video/e-consult consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork, test results and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate, providing in patient care for specific patients in the community hospital
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • To take a lead role on behalf of the practice in particular areas of clinical function e.g. prescribing.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

An expectation that you will work, when asked, at different sites which have been and may be acquired by Zetland Medical Practice.

If mutually agreed at interview, there would be an expectation that you will work extended hours and these hours will be on a rotational basis. Prior to any subsequent introduction of hours worked outside core hour activity a period of 3 months notice will be provided.

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, eg prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
  • Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
  • Supervision of GP Registrars and Medical students within the practice. Further involvement with training is possible depending on discussions with Trainer/GP Medical Student tutor
