Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Market Surgery, working as a Salaried GP for Maternity Cover until November 2023.

As a Salaried GP, you will work alongside our clinical team, management team and other staff as a key member of the GP practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a Salaried GP, who cover the role and responsibilities of a GP who will be on maternity leave until November 2023.

They will provide face to face appointments, cover as duty doctor on a rota basis, provide routine clinics, visit patients in their own home or care home, participate in meetings, sign scripts, cover test results and clinical corespondance and lead on a clinical topic.

About us

The Market Surgery is a busy nine doctor practice providing care to over 10,000 patients in and around Aylsham in North Norfolk.

Working from purpose-built premises, located a short walking distance from the centre of Aylsham, we aim to provide a friendly and efficient service to patients fulfilling all their primary care needs. All our consulting rooms are on the ground floor, we have a dispensary next to the reception area and we have a car park for the use of our patients.

The practice is part of North and Waveney Integrated Care Service and has a branch surgery at Cawston. We are a training practice for GP Registrars and medical students.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To provide primary medical services to patients of The Market Surgery by way of (inter alia) surgeries, clinics and relevant administrative work together with such other duties as may be required by the Practice in providing such services in accordance with the National Health Service Act 1977 as amended, supplemented or modified from time to time; including

Cover as duty doctor on a rota basis with partners and registrars

Provide routine clinics on a rota basis

  • Visit patients in their own home or care home
  • Act as visit doctor on a rota basis with partners and registrars
  • Assist with home visits when no surgery is booked
  • Participation in GSF and MDT meetings

Sign scripts

  • Cover test results and mail for colleagues in their absence
  • Lead on a clinical topic

Responsibility of test results and clinical correspondence for registered patient list of maternity cover

2. To continuously improve use and knowledge of surgery IT systems, in particular;

SystmOne for patients records and appointments

NHS Email, internal & external post

Clinical software including ECG, WebIce, INRStar

Acute & community referrals

3. To assist in the teaching of UEA students and registrars and to assist in tutorials and debriefs delivered to Registrars, Physician Associates and the Nurse Practitioner

4. To assist the Partners and Practice Manager in the development, delivery and maintenance of approved policies and procedures, ensuring they fulfil all legal, contractual, CQC and governance requirements, including:

Standard operating procedures, including CQC protocols,

Information governance, data protection & confidentiality,

Significant incidents & complaints.

5. To take an active role in the business of the practice, including attendance at weekly partner meetings (Friday pm) and representing the practice at other meetings for example, Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, dispensary & medicines management, LMC, referral management service and clinical governance.

6. To provide support and advice to the Partners as and when required, including alerting them to potential problems and recommending corrective action.

7. At all times, to maintain the highest standards of behaviour, to comply with and follow practice and CQC policies, protocols and procedures and to report any breach or suspected breach immediately.

8. To undertake regular training and personal development and to attend occasional staff meetings. To achieve Level 1 Safeguarding children training within 6 weeks of being in post.

9. To undertake any other activities that may from time to time be reasonably requested by the Partners.
