Job summary

Aspull Surgery is looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic receptionists to join our dedicated and friendly team. We are a small, friendly practice of just over 5700 patients. We pride ourselves in providing a high standard of care to our patients. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to become part of a successful practice.

Salary dependent on experience

20 hours per week

Surgery opening hours Monday - Friday 8.00am to 6.30pm

Experience of working in a GP Practice preferred but not essential as training will be provided for the right candidates

EMIS & Docman Practice

Flexibility to cover sickness/holidays as and when needed

Main duties of the job

  • Dealing with patients face to face and over the telephone on a daily basis
  • Dealing with prescriptions and managing any queries/tasks generated from these by GP's and/or patients
  • Completing any actions from GP's/Nurses relating to patient test requests
  • Working through tasks sent by GP's/Receptionists
  • Excellent telephone, communication and IT skills
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a well-established team
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a busy environment is also required.

We have recently moved into a new purpose built building, bosting excellent, state of the art facilities, which makes for an enhanced working enviroment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To answer the telephone in a polite and courteous manner and to make appointments in line with practice protocols.

To greet patients politely and log their arrival on the computer.

To effectively deal with patient enquiries.

To ensure patients are informed if a doctor is running late or called out.

To explain practice arrangements and requirements for new and temporary residents. Give patients a new patient pack and invite them in for a simple medical checkup.

To liaise with patients and their families in a compassionate manner.

To assist with the day-to-day running of the Practice to include the following duties:

o Registration of patients (regular, temporary residents, private)

o Preparation of documents for mailing.

o Advise patients of relevant charges for non-NHS services, accept payment, issue a receipt and log in petty cash book.

Receive and record messages from patients / other health care professional in line with practice protocols.

To be able to deal with complaints/grumbles to ensure complaints and grumbles are handled in an appropriate manner and the Practice Manager is informed.

Management of waiting room.

Maintaining high standard of tidiness in practice office area.

Understand the need for strict confidentiality at all times.

Sorting patient notes where appropriate.

Process prescriptions as required (ensure you are up-to-date with EPS requirements).

Any other duties as directed by the Practice Manger.

Technology

To work efficiently in all necessary areas of the computer system.

To record relevant data as required.

To know how to use EPS and access the prescription tracker
