May Lane Surgery is a busy GP
Practice based in Dursley Gloucestershire, dedicated to delivering excellent
healthcare to our patients. We are
looking for enthusiastic committed nurse to join us in providing high quality
care to our patients. Ideally the candidate will be an experienced Practice
Nurse, with experience in a leadership role or an interest in moving into a
leadership position. A qualification or previous experience working in
respiratory care would also be desirable.
The role is for at least 4 days per week, though the exact
working pattern and hours would be negotiable.
Salary £19-25 per hour depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
Utilising your
skills in managing patients within a primary care setting and dealing with
physical health concerns, mental health issues and minor illnesses, you'll be
an integral member of the medical team, conducting clinics independently,
completing administrative tasks (prescriptions, referrals, pathology results)
and supporting our doctors and reception processes.
Leading by
example, you'll share your experience and knowledge by being involved in the
educational and professional development of the nursing team through clinical
supervision sessions both on the wings and formal teaching opportunities.
Specific work includes but is not
limited to:
Provision of high-quality care to respiratory
patients
Management of long-term conditions
Disease & drug monitoring
Wound care
Patient health checks
Childhood immunisations
Requesting pathology tests as necessary

May Lane Surgery is a friendly surgery serving approximately 10,000 patients.
We are a 4
partner Surgery with a comprehensive team including reception, nursing and
managerial staff, and an enthusiastic ARR team currently comprising a Clinical
Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, a Physicians Associate, Social Prescriber, a
Paramedic Care Co-ordinator and a Young Persons Social Prescriber.

Job responsibilities
To provide a high-quality service to our
respiratory patients. You will be responsible for the assessment, delivery of
care and evaluation of programmes of patient care within nurse led clinics for
respiratory conditions.
Management of long-term conditions, including;
identifying significant abnormalities; diagnosis, monitoring and development of
individual management plans, agreeing these as appropriate with the patient and
other health professionals.
Wound Management: perform wound care using
aseptic technique. Assist with minor surgery. Provide the diagnosis, management
plan and treatment of leg ulcers using Doppler assessment and compression bandaging.
Screening: Opportunistic venepuncture, screening
i.e. BP, height, weight, urine.
Health Promotion: smoking cessation clinics,
healthy eating advice, advice on appropriate exercise, safe limits for alcohol
consumption, provision of health promotion literature.
Vaccinations and Immunisations: administer
injections under a Patient Group Direction; ensure safe storage, rotation and
disposal of vaccines and drugs. Provide an adult and childhood immunisation
service.
Travel Health Advice: give vaccines and malarial
advice. Provide contact addresses for further information.
Infection control: support patients and
colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures.
Emergency Management: is competent in
anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
Family planning: support patients attending for
emergency contraceptive and refer appropriately, perform health checks for
patients using hormonal contraception, advise patients on reducing the risk of
sexually transmitted diseases and refer patents appropriately.
