Job summary
This is a new post, designed under the ARRS roles, for a clerical person to assist with the administrative side of GP work, whilst learning some basic clinical skills to assist. This is an exciting new position and you will be the first to hold it in our practice.
Main duties of the job
Reviewing and coding of clinical
correspondence and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions required.
Signposting correspondence to
other members of the team such as clinical pharmacist etc.
Arranging appointments,
referrals, letters, tests and follow up appointments for patients
Preparing patients prior to
going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness
for the GP appointment.
Dipping urine, taking blood
pressure, ECGs, phlebotomy & vaccinations within competences (following
adequate training).
Completing basic (non-opinion)
forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as
insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc in line with GPA

Explaining treatment procedures
to patients
Assisting with preparation for
medication reviews eg organising blood tests
Checking basic blood tests after
appropriate training
Helping the GP liaise with
outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or
arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
This is very much a development
post and other tasks and duties may be
added that are commensurate with the role (upon appropriate training)

We are a two site, 10,000 patient training practice. We have six GP partners, trainee registrar doctors, a full nursing team, plus ARRS attached roles and a full admin support team.

- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Very high level computer skills
