Job summary

Wombwell Medical Centre has a fantastic opportunity for a part-time clinical coder to join our team.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Clinical Coder to accurately translate patient medical records into standardised codes using classification systems such as SNOMED CT. The Clinical Coder plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data for billing, epidemiological research, clinical audits, and General Practice reporting.

This is a 30-hour-per-week post, and the days can be negotiated to suit you and the needs of the practice team.

Main duties of the job

  • As a clinical coder, you will be reviewing electronic clinical letters, clinical e-mails, paper documentation and any other clinical correspondence. From these, you will identify relevant clinical findings and code the documents appropriately and accurately in patient medical records.
  • Review, interpret, and analyse clinical documentation to assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with national and local coding standards and guidelines.
  • Liaise with clinical staff to clarify any ambiguous documentation and ensure that coding accurately reflects the care provided.
  • Input data into the EMIS Web health information system and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Assist in coding audits, quality improvement initiatives, and education of clinical staff where necessary.
  • Keep up to date with changes in coding practices, classifications, and relevant legislation.
