Job summary

Busy, friendly GP surgery based in Clapham, Bedford, is looking to recruit a full time/part time Minor Illness Practitioner/Paramedic Minor Illness Practitioner - up to 10 sessions per week which is negotiable.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is keen to develop and work within our team.

We are willing to support the candidate through the FCP/ACP pathway and develop the right candidate to reach both your and our long term goals.

Your Role

Working within our team of GP's to provide same day minor illness patient care.

Our experienced GP's, nurse practitioners and paramedic will support and mentor you. We have an open learning environment with monthly in-houseeducational sessions, regular audit and SEA meetings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Independent prescriber (or working towards this)
  • Masters level qualificaton in advanced practice or working towards similar level
  • Alternatively similar modules/training covering physical assessment, diagnostics and treatment planning

  • List size of approximately 8000
  • 2 GP partner practice and 2 GP trainees who are supported by 2 pharmacy technicians, paramedic and the practice nursing team
  • This is a new vacancy to increase and improve access

  • Provide assessment, screening treatment, services and health education advice
  • Provide general and specific health screening to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary
  • Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug-and nondrug-based treatment methods into a management plan.
  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.
  • Work with patients in order to support compliance with, and adherence to, prescribed treatments.
  • Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication, medication regimes, side-effects and interactions
  • Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles, and apply principles of self-care.
  • Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children.
  • Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment
  • Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct as regulated by the NMC/HCPC
  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
