Job summary

St Austell Healthcare are seeking a Healthcare Assistant to work alongside our highly skilled multi-disciplinary team that includes Practice Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Urgent Care Nurses, Paramedic/Urgent care Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Mental Health Nurses.

Main duties of the job

You will have good communication skills, demonstrating empathy and compassion whilst ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times, be able to work under pressure, and work within a large team.

The role will offer you great variety including assisting in ophthalmology clinics, haematology clinics, minor ops clinics and contraception clinics.

Training to NVQ level 2 / 3 desirable but not essential, as is previous experience in venepuncture, wound care, blood pressure and ECGs. However, in-house training can be provided.

There will be a requirement to move between sites. Hours to be arranged between 8.00 and and 8.00 pm Monday to Friday, with rota participation on a Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Rate of pay is £8.89 to £9.86 per hour depending on experience.

About us

We are a busy practice that provides a service to approximately 32,000 patients over 4 sites in and around St Austell.

The National Association of Primary care awarded St Austell Healthcare the title of Primary Care Home of the Year 2019.

Since our merger under a crisis situation in 2015 St Austell Healthcare have tried to innovate, collaborate, and move to a population health approach. Specific pilot projects have led to new teams with a positive impact on our patients: social prescribing, pharmacists, integration nurse, visiting service, research, acute care teams, mental health workers, and a musculoskeletal team. Close working with the district nurses and community matrons has had a significant impact the quality of care for housebound patients. We have worked with our colleagues in A&E on a new community sepsis pathway and reducing pressures on A&E. Sub-contracting of secondary care services is enabling care closer to home for services such as Ophthalmology and Haematology.

The post holder will provide clinical care as directed by the practice nurse and/or GP. Working under the supervision of a practice nurse responsibilities will vary, involving the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients care.

  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
