Job summary
The Reception team are the first point of contact for patients at Penkridge Medical Practice. We are looking for a candidate who is self-reliant, helpful, open and approachable, can use their initiative and has a reliable and dependable attitude.
We have a friendly team who work closely together to ensure that the day to day running of the Practice is as efficient as possible whilst providing a positive working environment.
The right candidate will be enthusiastic, determined, have a willingness to learn and an interest in the work of a primary health care team.
Main duties of the job
Provide cover for colleagues during annual and sickness absence.
Making appointments
Receiving and processing visit requests.
Follow the procedure to divert the telephone system as and when necessary.
Directing patients to most appropriate service using protocols and guidance.
Extraction of medical records for appointments, visits, clinics or as requested.
Filing of medical records, letters, reports.
Every Friday to work in prescriptions issuing and dealing with queries.
About us
Penkridge Medical Practice is based in Penkridge, a large
village in mid Staffordshire, it has excellent transport links with Stafford,
Cannock, Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent. We have modern, purpose built
premises and our patient list size is approximately 10,000.
Our
clinical team comprises GPs, Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician. Our nursing team comprises Lead Nurse Practitioner, 3
Practice Nurses and 2 HCAs. We are a training practice so work with GP
Registrars, Physician Associates in training and medical students.
Our
patient services team comprises an Operational Manager, Reception Supervisor, 8
Receptionists, 2 Secretaries and an Admin team.
We
have regular team and staff meetings and protected time for training.
Our
clinical systems are Emis Web/Docman.
We
are part of South Stafford Primary Care Network.

Greeting and directing patients and visitors to the surgery in a
pleasant and helpful manner.
Dealing
with requests for appointments.
Accepting
and handing out prescriptions, letters, forms and specimen bottles, etc.
Receiving
and processing visit requests.
Explain
practice procedures and arrangements to new patients and those seeking
temporary cover, ensuring any procedures are completed.
Advise
patients of relevant charges for non-NHS services, accept payment and issue
receipts.
Respond
appropriately to queries and requests from patients and visitors.
Participate
in the rota to cover annual flu clinics. Covering at least one session held on
Saturdays.
Provide

times with the Practices health and safety policy.
Maintain
good working relationships with other members of the practice/primary care team
and staff from other agencies.
To
identify training needs of self and participate in relevant education/training
programmes.
To
attend staff meetings as required.
To
undertake such duties as may be required from time to time, as are consistent
with the responsibilities of the grade and the individuals level of competence.
