Salaried General Practitioner Job Description
Job summary:
The
post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs
in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all
registered and temporary patients.
Description
of different sessions
Routine
and Acute (on the day) Sessions: There is 3hrs of patient contact split into 10
minute telephone or face to face consultations. Individual GPs may choose to
insert a reasonable number extra catch up slots. Each session will include
associated paperwork eg: referrals, blood tests etc
To
facilitate some clear admin time in a session per week or a guaranteed on
time departure (a clean finish day) there is an expectation for salaried
doctors to see extras on half of their sessions but to be varied over a week
depending on cover available. Mutual
flexibility is appreciated.
Duty
Sessions- will run from 8.am to 1pm or 1pm to 6.30pm.
The
proportion of Duty sessions is allocated pro-rata and should not exceed 1/6
averaged over a three month period.
Any additional sessions can be taken as TOIL
or would be paid as an additional payment equal to pro rata sessional rate by
agreement with the employer.
Extended
hours sessions can be worked as agreed with the Partnership but is not a
requirement.
List
size as Usual GP
This
is not capped but would not be expected to exceed the list size (per session)
of any other GP in the surgery.
Clinical
responsibilities:
- In
accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will
make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including
surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting
patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing
with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion this would
include, but not be limited to, responsibility for providing services to
the list of patients on the post-holder's list.
- Supervision of
allied health professionals such as Physician Associate, Paramedic,
Pharmacist and Nurses.
- Making
professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,
whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within
the organisation
- Assessing the
health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed
problems
- Screening
patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation
with patients and in line with current practice disease management
protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing
counselling and health education
- Admitting or
discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care
providers as appropriate
- Recording clear
and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data
for audit purposes
- Compiling and
issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding
hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in
accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically)
whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In general the
post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and
responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
