Job summary

Barnt Green Surgery is looking for a Physician Associate to join its present PA and other team members working full time. A ARRS role based at the surgery you will assist the clinical team in the service and delivery of the care management of the practice population.

Main duties of the job

As Physician Associate you will provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems, utilising history-taking, physical examinations, and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient (and their carers where applicable).

About us

Barnt Green is based just outside Bromsgrove, close to the M42 and serves Barnt Green and its surrounding villages. Looking after around 6800 patients the 3 partners are supported by salaried doctors, nursing and pharmacy teams along with our reception and admin support staff

Job description

Job responsibilities

As integral part of the practice, in patient facing role under the supervision of a GP Partners to clinically assess and treat patients at the practice. The role will include:

Working collaboratively within the primary healthcare team within the practice & PCN in developing own skills to manage patient care.

Demonstrating safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within the general practice.

Supporting any extended access provision

Work with the PCN and practices to promote health/disease awareness and prevention advice. Analysing and actioning diagnostic test result and presenting at GP/PCN Forums and meetings.

Develop integrated patient centred care through appropriate wording with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks.

Utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice and partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research and analysis as required.

Participate in duty rotas, this will include working within practice and care home environments on a weekly basis. Along with undertaking face to face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems as determined by the PCN.

Support the management of patients conditions by offering specialised clinics following the appropriate training and with the support of Practice GPs and the Senior Physician Associate. This includes family planning, baby checks, COPD, asthma, diabetes and anticoagulation.

Participate in regular supervision sessions and appraisals with yourline manager. Attend training and development activities as identified and participate in meetings both within the practice and the wider primary care within the PCN & Worcestershire as required.

Maintain administration systems and workspace used in a clean and tidy condition.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified Physician Associate Completed at post-graduate Physician Associate Course (PG Diploma or MSc)
  • Maintained Professional Registration with the Faculty of Physician Associates and or the General Medical Council when applicable
  • Demonstrable commitment to Continuous Professional Development
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective time management skills to balance work and education requirements

Desirable

  • Relevant experience in a healthcare setting as a Physician Associate
