Job summary

Dr Dowsett & Overs in Jarrow, South Tyneside are looking to recruit a salaried GP/GP partner to join our enthusiastic team for 6 sessions per week. We are a long established practice with a list size of 4750 patients. We support training for Sunderland University medical students. We embrace new developments and are receptive to new ideas and ways of working.

This post is eligible for the "New to partnership scheme" for applicants that would be interested in partnership. The scheme gives eligible participants a sum of up to £20,000 plus a contribution towards on-costs of up to £4,000 (for a full time participant) available to support establishment as a partner, as well as up to £3,000 in a training fund to develop non-clinical partnership skills. Main duties of the job

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

Our team consists of two GP partners, WTE one and two thirds. One full time Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Two Practice Nurses and a Health Care Assistant.

Our clinicians are closely supported by an excellent administration and management team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone/video consultations. E-consult and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation, using current clinical guidelines, NICE/health pathways guidance
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003.
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
  • Qualified General Practitioner (complete certificate of completion of training CCT).
  • Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register.
  • DBS clearance.
  • Have had an annual NHS appraisal.

Desirable

  • Evidence of further postgraduate educational activities in relevant fields.
  • MRCGP.
