We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Medical Typist/Administrator to join our friendly and supportive team. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience in clinical administration and a good understanding of the Secondary Uses Service (SUS) and its importance in the NHS.

  • Proven experience in medical typing or administration within a healthcare setting.
  • Good working knowledge of Secondary Uses Service (SUS) and how it supports healthcare reporting and funding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office and clinical IT systems.
  • A team player with a can-do attitude and the ability to work independently.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe clinical correspondence, referral letters, and reports from audio or handwritten notes with speed and accuracy.
  • Manage and maintain accurate patient records and administrative data within our clinical systems (e.g., EMIS).
  • Liaise with GPs and external providers to ensure timely processing of correspondence.
  • Support the collation and validation of data for SUS reporting, ensuring completeness and quality.
  • Identify and correct data issues that may affect SUS submissions, supporting compliance and accurate commissioning data.
  • Disseminate scan requests following clinics (both urgent and routine).
  • Make referrals both on ERS and Rego.
  • Process 2 week waits as necessary
  • Provide general administrative support including scanning, filing, and responding to queries.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced medical typist to support clinical and administrative functions through accurate transcription and data entry of medical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Typing and Documentation:

  • Transcribe audio recordings and handwritten notes from clinicians into structured medical documentation.
  • Ensure documents are accurately formatted, and submitted within departmental timeframes.
  • Disseminate scan requests following clinics (both urgent and routine).
  • Make referrals both on ERS and Rego.
  • Process 2 week waits as necessary.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

Secondary Uses Service (SUS) Support:

  • Collaborate with clinical coding and health information to ensure accurate input and verification of patient data.
  • Assist with the identification and rectification of data errors or mismatches prior to SUS submissions.
  • Ensure clinical documentation is complete and clear to support high quality coded data for secondary uses.

Data Management and Quality Assurance:

  • Verify patient information and medical terminology for consistency and accuracy across systems.
  • Liaise with clinical staff to clarify ambiguous dictations or incomplete notes.
  • Support audits related to SUS data quality and clinical coding accuracy.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage correspondence and filing of patient information in electronic systems (e.g., Emis).
  • Prioritise workload to support urgent typing tasks and meet service level agreements.
  • Participate in team meetings and training relevant to clinical documentation and SUS.
