Job summary

We are looking for two part-time Qualified Dispensers to join our friendly team at The Old School Surgery. Ideally you will be qualified to NVQ Level 2.

Excellent communication skills, an eye for detail and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Having a positive team working ethic is essential.

Main duties of the job

The main duties will include:

  • Issue and dispense acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Order medication for stock.
  • Unpack deliveries and check invoices, putting stock away and rotating the shelves.
  • Fulfil weekly dosette boxes.
  • Order, receive and dispenser controlled drugs.
  • Promote outstanding patient service and offer appropriate information and advice to patients and their carers within your scope.
  • As a team contribute to the annual DSQS audit.

About us

The Old School Surgery is a rural GP surgery with approximately 3500 patients. We dispense medication to just over 85% of our patient population.

We have three GP Partners, a Salaried GP, two Practice Nurses, along with other healthcare professionals that work within our surgery including, health visitor, social prescriber and care co-ordinator.

We pride ourselves at the very high standard of primary care we deliver to our patients and work closely as an integrated team.

Job Responsibilities:

Issue and dispense repeat prescriptions as required from patient online requests, paper repeat slips and tasks from GPs.

Dispense acute prescriptions from GPs surgery.

Fulfil weekly dosette boxes checking they are correct and complete prior to collection.

Order, record and dispense controlled drugs.

Improve profitability by accurate ordering of stock ensuring best value.

Unpack deliveries and check invoices, stack the shelves rotating stock and checking for out of date stock.

Promote outstanding customer service and offer appropriate information and advice to patients and their carers within your scope.

Ensure the dispensary has a high level of hygiene ensuring you are working safely in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Operate efficient stock control ensuring continuous supply for the patients whilst minimising wastage through out of date stock.

Maintain a temperature control log for refrigerated medication and ensure they are stored at the appropriate temperature at all times.

Record and report any incidents, significant events or drug errors.

Take part in the disposal of any controlled drugs where necessary.

As a team take part in the annual DSQS audit.
