Job summary

We are looking to recruit a caring and motivated Health Care Assistant who is committed to patient care and willing to further develop our dedicated nursing team.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the other practice nurses and HCA to treat our patients, maintain systems including infection control to meet CQC requirements and influence and implement policy and change in the Practice.

Main duties of the job

As part of our nursing team you will be responsible for assisting the practice nurses with simple clinical procedures primarily involving seasonal vaccinations but may include height, weight, urinalysis, lifestyle advice, blood pressure checks, new patient checks, ECGs, removal of sutures, taking blood samples, CPR, chaperoning, assisting doctors with minor surgery and general patient assistance.

You will work with other members of the team to ensure clinical areas meet a satisfactory infection control level and remain adequately stocked with consumables. Other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibility, training and scale of the post e.g. ear syringing, dressings, vaccinations, smoking cessation, anticoagulation.

This is a part-time position, 18 hours per week (can be flexible from minimum two days up to four days) and salary is competitive, depending on experience, with access to NHS pension scheme.

Accountable to:Practice Nurses, GP Principals, reporting to Practice Manager

JOB PURPOSE

To promote the mental, physical and emotional health of the Practice population

To assess the health needs of the Practice population

To provide and maintain a high standard of care for the Practice population

To assist with hygiene and infection prevention control for the practice

To ensure clinical areas are stocked adequately in order to meet the above and needs of the clinician

To be an effective member of the Primary Healthcare Team.

DIMENSIONS

1. Service development

To assist other nurses and doctors with simple clinical procedures and clerical tasks

To set up and maintain systems to provide adequate hygiene and infection control standard to meet CQC requirements

2. Clerical

To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up to date manual and electronic records with respect to activities which ensure the smooth running of the practice and delivery of effective service to the patients. This may include stock management, documentation and general administrative support.

3. Clinical

To assist the practice nurses with simple clinical procedures which will primarily involve seasonal vaccinations but ay include height, weight, urinalysis, lifestyle advice, blood pressure checks, new patient checks, ECGs, removal of sutures, taking blood samples, CPR, chaperoning, assisting doctors with minor surgery and general patient assistance.

To implement clinical work to ensure effective care delivery in the partnership with clients and families/carers

OTHER DUTIES

To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibility, training and scale of the post eg ear syringing, dressings, vaccinations, smoking cessation, anticoagulation

To have responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and others in the working environment, to follow safe working practice and to comply at all times with the Trust/Practice health and safety policy and procedures.
