We are searching for x3 aspiring apprentice Student Nurses who would like to start their careers within our Primary Care Network in Northamptonshire.

MWEB PCN serve 37,000 patients in the Northamptonshire area, made up of 4 practices and 2 branch sites.With all demographics there are significant health challenges and our PCN is no exception. Our aim is to deliver excellent care, and you will be part of an experienced, stable and happy team providing both acute and chronic healthcare interventions.

We are looking to offer this apprenticeship opportunity in partnership with the University of Northampton. We are aware the next course intake is not until Jan/Feb 2025, therefore we are offering you the uniqueopportunity to join us as a GP Assistant, transitioning to the Trainee Nurse Associate role when your University course begins in early 2025.

You will work in a capacity of a Healthcare Assistant, whilst you go through the academic interview and University onboarding process.

Main duties of the job

To be eligible for the Programme youll need to hold a minimum of English and Mathematics at GCSE grade C/4 or Functional or Key Skills at Level 2. These qualifications must be gained prior to course start date.

You will need to hold a valid Full UK Driving License; this role is based within the GP surgery but on occasion you may be required to travel to peoples homes or local Nursing homes to help with vaccination programmes.

Previous HCA experience is essential for this role.

You will need to demonstrate an understanding of General Practice healthcare and the services that we provide. We expect you to understand the roles and responsibilities of a Nursing Associate in a Primary Care in a General Practice setting. The role is challenging, and you will need to use your initiative and perform under pressure.

You will need to be an effective communicator with the people you care for, their families and carers, as well as your colleagues and superiors.

You will need to be prepared to work hard and undertake study in your own time as you work towards becoming a qualified Nursing Associate. During this challenging programme you will learn the fundamentals of essential care and develop your depth of knowledge around important aspects of both physical and mental health. In addition, you will be taught many clinical skills which will be required throughout the course and also when you become a registered Nursing Associate.

This is a developmental role. The Student will work towards progression into the post of Nursing Associate through successful completion of the Nursing Associate training programme, achieving a level 5 Foundation Degree equivalent qualification. They will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Nursing Associate within the service and through completion of the Nursing Associate training programme which includes working in care settings and delivery of person-centred care.

The Nursing Associate training programme combines academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers. A Student Nursing Associate will be based, as an employee, within a GP surgery, but will experience working in alternative settings in order that they gain a wide appreciation of multiple healthcare contexts and are able to fulfil all the NMC requirements of the programme.

At the end of the programme, the Student Nursing Associate will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a registered Nursing Associate and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct.

a) The training program emphasises the role that Student Nursing Associates can play in life-course (pre-conception to end of life) approaches towards health and well-being and the ways in which they actively contribute to the delivery of holistic care. Holistic care, across life-course, is a whole-person approach which considers, and equally values, physical, psychological, and public health needs, learning disabilities, social, economic, spiritual, and other factors in the assessing, planning and delivery of care.

b) The overall outcome from the training program is an NMC registered Nursing Associate who is fit to practice in the widest range of settings as well as being equipped with the specific knowledge, skills and capabilities required for the context in which they have trained and are employed.

The trainee will:

Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professionals dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence

Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values

Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual

Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities safely and competently to a high standard, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting

Work with a mentor and take responsibility for learning and developing their own knowledge, experience and clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace, on placements and through attending the Nursing Associate Training Programme

Develop by the end of the Nursing Associate Training Programme the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individuals defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed

  • GCSEs Grade A to C in Maths and English or key functional skills level 2 in Maths and English to be confirmed at interview.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car is essential.
