Job summary

Our friendly, hard working team at Asplands and Woburn Surgeries aim high. We provide a phlebotomy service for our patients in Woburn Sands and Woburn and are looking for a new team member to compliment the clinical team. The role will include some home visits but will be mainly based at our two surgeries during the following hours:

Monday 8:00 - 12:00, Tuesday 8:00 to 11:00, Thursday 8:00 to 12:00, Friday 8:00 to 13:00. This will be a total of 18 hours.

Main duties of the job

The main duties include:

Prepare and assemble the equipment to blood sampling.

Be skilled in locating a vein and inserting a needle easily and painlessly

Collect blood for testing

Label blood samples accurately

Update and maintain patients medical record

Visiting patients in their home to take blood sample

Use appropriate infection control procedures

Properly prepare and assemble the equipment to include: tourniquets, needles, gauze cotton and disposal containers for needles

Be skilled in locating a vein and inserting a needle easily and painlessly

Collect blood for testing

Label blood samples accurately

Update and maintain patients medical record

Respect patient privacy and confidentiality and act appropriately

Use appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in own designated clinical room so that they are clean, safe and free from hazards, reporting any potential risks.

Know the health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace, including fire procedures, maintaining accurate documentation, consent, sharps and needlestick injuries.

Be aware of the child safeguarding procedures, local guidance and referral criteria

  • The ideal candidate will be friendly and personable but able to remain calm and professional when under pressure . Basic computer skills will be required with good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A car owner and driver is essential for home visits, mileage allowance will be paid.

  • Basic computer literacy
  • Compassionate nature

Desirable

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
