Job summary

1 x Part-Time Practice Nurse

BAND 5/6 AFC EQUIVALENT - dependent on experience

24 regular weekly hours, the actual working hours must include 2 afternoon shifts but can be worked over 3 full 8 hour days or split into 6 x 4 hour morning and afternoon shifts over 5 days.

We are looking for a positive and forward-thinking Practice Nurse who would like to join our friendly and supportive team, based in the village of Withnell, situation between Chorley and Blackburn and easily accessible via motorways. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years' experience of primary care nursing and will have a knowledge of diabetes management and respiratory disease management.

Main duties of the job

  • Chronic disease management
  • Cytology
  • Simple wound care
  • Contraception
  • Hypertension management
  • Child and adult immunisations
  • Management of infection control
  • CQC compliance checks

About us

We are a small and friendly GP surgery, based in the village of Withnell and look after patients in the surrounding villages of Brinscall, Abbey Village and Wheelton. We provide care for 5500 patients and are led by our supportive single handed GP. Our practice team also includes 2 salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 2 Practice Nurse, 1 HCA/Care-ordinator, 5 receptionists, 3 admin staff, Practice Manager and Assistant Practice Manager. We are supported by staff employed through our Primary Care Network and have Pharmacists, an adult mental health practitioner, a care co-ordinator, and a Salaried GP.

We provide a supportive working environment, with a range of team meetings and staff-centred training afternoons. We are a forward-thinking practice, and encourage all members of our team to play a role in our continuous improvement.

We have a very loyal team of staff with vacancies only usually arising upon retirement or a new post being created. This one is arising due to a staff members change in circumstances.

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Simple wound care
  • Removal of Sutures
  • Travel Clinic
  • Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry/feNO
  • Venepuncture
  • Hypertension Management
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning GPs
  • Requesting and performing pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Chronic disease management including Diabetes and Coronary Heart Disease.
  • Contraception.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

  • Capable of performing diagnostic tests such as ECGs and spirometry accurately and competently.
  • Diabetes and/or Respiratory Long Term condition accredited training
