Surgery are seeking a Practice Nurse to join our friendly team at our busy
rural practice. This is a full-time
position.
Experience
in Phlebotomy, ECGs, BPs, Immunisations, Cytology, Family Planning, Ear
Irrigation, Wound Care and Dressings preferred. An interest in Chronic Diseases
and Learning Disabilities would also be beneficial. Salary dependent upon
experience.
Main duties of the job
To deliver and uphold a high standard of nursing care for patients while supporting doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. Responsibilities will encompass all tasks typically performed by an experienced Registered General Nurse (RGN), along with any additional duties mutually agreed upon by the nurse and doctors, in alignment with current training and expertise.

Ixworth Surgery is a GMS GP practice with a patient list of 9,000. It is owned and operated by 4 GP partners who are supported by Salaried GPs, Nurse Practitioners, a Respiratory Nurse Specialist, Practice Nurses and a Health Care Assistant. There is also an onsite pharmacy/dispensary. Administrative support is provided by the Practice Management team, Admin team and Reception team.
Ixworth Surgery is a part of Blackbourne Primary Care Network. The practices that form Blackbourne PCN are located in West Suffolk, close by to Bury St Edmunds, and care for patients in rural communities.

HOURS: 37 Hours Per Week
Job Summary:
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Cytology
- Removal of Sutures/wound care
- New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
- ECGs
- Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
- Venepuncture
- Hypertension Management
- Ear syringing
- Routine injections/Childhood immunisations/Travel vaccinations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Interest in minor illness diagnosis and treatment.
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Chronic disease management
- Influenza and other routine vaccination clinics
- Family planning
- Well man/women clinics
Other tasks will include
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
