Job summary

Under the direct supervision of the Responsible Dispenser carry out day-to-day activities connected with the preparation and supply of medicines and provide advice to patients on the use of medicines.

The Dispensary is open 8am -6pm and exact working pattern can be discussed at interview. The role will be based at Tring and Markyate but there may be the need to work at other sites within the group on an add hoc basis

Main duties of the job

Label and dispense prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure safe, efficient and accurate supply to patients. Dispense controlled drugs and make necessary entries in the controlled drugs register in accordance with standard operating procedures and complying with the relevant legal controls.

Create and update patient medication records in accordance with data protection principles to ensure patient confidentiality. Issue repeat prescriptions in accordance with Practice protocol.

Store refrigerated items appropriately and maintain the temperature control record/logbook.Assist with stock ordering and date/usage checking to maximise availability and minimise waste.Ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.Assist with the preparation of monitored dosage systems to benefit patients on multiple medication regimes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Label and dispense prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure safe, efficient and accurate supply to patients.

Dispense controlled drugs and make necessary entries in the controlled drugs register in accordance with standard operating procedures and complying with the relevant legal controls.

Ensure the correct receipt of prescriptions and transfer of dispensed medicines to and from patients.

Highlight medicine interactions, dose changes and other issues pertaining to prescriptions to the GP.

Create and update patient medication records in accordance with data protection principles to ensure patient confidentiality.
