Job summary
Cumberland House Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic,
understanding, flexible, well organised person to join our Busy Doctors
surgery.
We have a fabulous reception team of Receptionists led by
our Office Manager, Mariam.
The Practice clinical team consists of 2 GP Partners; 4
Salaried G.P.s; 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners; 1 Advanced Clinical
Practitioner; Pharmacist; 2 Practice Nurses; 1 Health Care Assistant & 2
Phlebotomists who are all supportive and caring.
Applicants must be available to work both morning (starting
at 8.00am) and afternoon shifts (finishing at 6.30pm) Working days will be discussed at interview
and we are looking for someone with flexibility to provide cover for holidays
and sickness.
The right candidate will be able to join the NHS Pension
Scheme, and take 5.5 of your working weeks as annual leave excluding bank
holidays.
Previous experience of working in a GP Practice is
preferable but not essential as training will be provided. Only shortlisted candidates will be
contacted.
Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities may include any or all of
the items in the following list.
Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction
of the Office Manager or Practice Manager, depending on current and evolving
practice workload and staffing levels.
Opening up/locking up of practice premises and
maintaining security in accordance with practice protcols.
Processing telephone requests for appointments,
visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring patients are directed to the
appropriate healthcare professional.
Taking messages and passing on information.
Computer data entry/data allocation and
collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice
procedures.
Initiating contact with and responding to
requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies
and providers.
Providing clerical assistance to practice staff
as required from time to time, including word/data processing, photocopying and
scanning.
About us
To support the clinical team by signposting patients to the
appropriate healthcare professional or service, working as part of a
multidisciplinary team. The position
will be to undertake reception duties as part of the role, supporting the
administrative team in delivering a polite and professional service to the
patient population. This will include
daily duties as part of the task list, open and close as required, and managing
administrative duties to support the clinical team and patients.

To ensure that reception duties are completed efficiently
and adhere to the guidelines that are laid down by doctors and management.
The work is of a
highly confidential nature and no information, either medical or personal,
should be disclosed outside by Practice personnel.
Reception Duties:
1.
Greeting and directing patients and visitors to
the surgery in a pleasant and helpful manner.
2.
Dealing with requests for appointments
3.
Receiving and processing home visit requests
4.
Explain Practice procedures and arrangements to
new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring any procedures are
completed
5.
Advise patients of relevant charges for non-NHS
services, accept payment and issue receipts
6.
Respond appropriately to queries and requests
from patients and visitors
Telephone Duties:
1.
Marking appointments
2.
Receiving and processing visit requests
3.
Taking messages and dealing with them in the
relevant manner
4.
Making telephone calls as requested, including
ordering ambulances
Other Duties:
1.
Preparation of repeat prescriptions for GP
signature
2.
Scanning of medical records, letters onto
electronic medical records
3.

Maintaining tidiness of reception and waiting

Ensure the building is checked and secured
before leaving in the evening

To have responsibility for the health &
safety and welfare of others in the working environment, to follow safe working
practice and to comply at all times with the Practices Health & Safety
Policy.

Maintain good working relationships with other
members of the Practice/primary care team and staff from other agencies.

To identify training needs of self and
participate in relevant education/training programmes
