Job summary

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the post is to support the nurse and doctor teams by undertaking patient care tasks, clinical support tasks, infection control tasks, restocking and stock rotation.

SCOPE OF THE JOB

The HCA will perform tasks prescribed and delegated by the Lead Nurse, working to agreed protocols and within defined competencies.

Main duties of the job

New patient health checks and NHS health checks

Venepuncture

Urine testing/analysis

Blood pressure measurement/monitoring including ambulatory BP monitoring

ECG

Height, weight measurement

Lifestyle advice

Spirometry monitoring

Chaperoning

Diabetic foot checks

Simple wound care

Peak flow recording

Suture and clip removal

Wound swabs

Recognise changes in the patients observations which must be reported and acted on

Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients

Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team

Function as a chaperone

Appreciate Principles of health living

Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients

The link person within the practice for health promotion activities

Responsible for collection of clinical waste/sample/sharps bins and take to designated storage areas ready for collection.

With nurse support, assist with setting up for:

Minor surgery procedures including joint injections

Dressings

IUD insertion and removal

Implanon insertion and removal

Smears

Medicals

On the basis of a Patient Specific Direction and with signed authorisation:

Shingles immunisation

Flu immunisation

Pneumococcal immunisation

Vitamin B injections

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join this established and respected medical practice. RHR Experience of general practice is desirable, and experience from a hospital or a healthcare environment will be considered.

Parkwood Surgery is a Teaching and Training Practice. Our new stunning purpose-built extension and completely refurbished building, provides spacious clinical and admin areas.

Working under the supervision of Lead Practice Nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice protocols and guidelines, you will assist the practice in provision and delivery of general medical services to patients.

Working within your scope of practice and maintaining exceptional professional conduct at all times.

Main Duties:

- To assist in the provision of specifically delegated nursing services

- To deal with patients needs in a primary care setting

- To contribute and work within the nursing team

- To ensure the highest standards of care are provided for patients

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, and willing to work towards Level 3, or equivalent
