Job summary

Battersea PCN is looking for motivated, enthusiastic experienced Advanced Paramedic Practitioner to join our expanding team. This is an opportunity to be involved in developing new ways of working in primary care alongside a paramedic already in post and our friendly, forward-thinking practice teams. Battersea is a fantastic place to work with its diverse, varied population, proximity to central London and beautiful open spaces such as Battersea Park and Clapham Common.

The Advanced Paramedic Practitioner will work autonomously within the GP Practices and the community, using their enhanced clinical assessment and treatment skill set. The postholder will need to confidently provide safe care for the presenting patient which would include initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The post holder will communicate and work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Paramedic Practitioner will practice autonomously without direct supervision and provide the following services to patients:

Assess and triage patients with complex needs, including same day triage, and as appropriate provide definitive treatment (including prescribing medications following policy, patient group directives, NICE (national) and local clinical guidelines and local care pathways) or make necessary referrals to other members of the primary care team;

Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children;

To recognise the need for, initiate and where appropriate interpret relevant diagnostic investigations and advice of relevant specialisms;

To prescribe medication and work within the limitations of current extended Non-Medical Prescribing legislation;

Discharge or refer patients as appropriate to internal or external clinical pathways.

Battersea PCN comprises5 GP surgeries in a compact area of North Battersea (Bridge Lane, Lavender Hill, Battersea Fields, Queenstown Road, Battersea Rise) with a combined population ofapproximately 55,000patients. Ensure awareness of sources of support and guidance (e.g. PALS) and provide information in an acceptable format to all patients, recognising any difficulties and referring where appropriate;

Anticipate barriers to communication and take action to improve communication;

Maintain effective communication within the practice environment and with external stakeholders;

Act as an advocate for patients and colleagues.
