Job summary
We are looking for two or three Health Care Assistants to
join our busy and friendly team to provide a high-quality service to patients,
doctors, and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.
This post will be suited to an experienced HCA, preferably
with an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, although training would be
available to suitable candidates. Training courses include an expectation of
personal study and commitment to completing lengthy study modules.
The hours are expected to be between 18 and 37.5 per week, across
Monday to Friday, and there is generally a set working pattern between
08:00-18:00. Evening and weekend cover may be expected, including up to 20:00
on either a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and Saturday morning is 09:00 13:00
(though this would be for cover only and not part of the rota).
You must support all your colleagues whilst always
maintaining professionalism and discretion and be able to work independently
and as part of a team. Good communication skills and attention to detail are
essential along with the flexibility to cover for annual/sick leave. Knowledge
of SystmOne would be an advantage.
You will have experience of working with the
public, have a cheerful and polite manner, be able to multi-task and be a good
team player. You must be able to always contribute to the maintenance of
patient confidentiality, inside and outside the Practice.
Applicants will be required to work at any of
the Practices sites.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be a good communicator with
excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, especially under pressure.
You will work
alongside the clinicians in the provision of patient care. You will undertake
and record measurements of height and weight, urinalysis, blood pressure, peak
flow measurements, recording of ECGs, venepuncture, Flu and Pneumonia
vaccinations, B12 injections (all under Patient Specific Directions and only if
already competent to do these injections post HCA training).
You will have excellent organisational skills and
time management is a critical requirement. You will also have a caring,
empathetic character, which we view as being essential.
It is very important to have a 'can do' attitude to
support your colleagues. It is also required that you will be flexible to cover
shifts for sickness and annual leave when required.

Practice with 47,500 patients across five main practice sites - Brough, South
Cave, Hessle, Holme Upon Spalding Moor and Bubwith. Each of these sites has its
own personal characteristics and a varied patient mix as we cover commuting
areas for Hull, Leeds, and York, due to easy access to A63/M62, and also rural
East Yorkshire.
The ideal candidate will be able
to work in a fast-paced working environment and be able to adapt to change
easily. You will need to have a strong work ethic and be able to work under
pressure and in isolation, although there will always be a senior colleague in
the building with you.The role involves close personal patient contact in
person and on the phone, so good communication skills are essential. Your role
will be varied, dealing with a variety of duties and no two days will be the
same.

Undertakes and records the following tasks: measurement of
height and weight, urinalysis, blood pressure, peak flow measurements,
recording of ECGs, venepuncture, Flu and Pneumonia vaccinations, B12 injections

Ensure stock items are ordered and provided in GP and
treatment rooms and emergency equipment.
Maintain clinical equipment efficiently and ensures
servicing is undertaken. Ensure daily, weekly and monthly recordings of
equipment are maintained, including fridge temperatures, spirometry
calibration, and emergency equipment check.
Follows infection control standards in all practice
situations and guidelines for use of sterile equipment.
Contribute new ideas to improve patient care.
Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks.
CLINICAL PRACTICE LEADERSHIP
Work effectively in a team.
Interact with patients and colleagues in a professional
manner.
Maintain set standards of organisation in Practice.
Take appropriate action if standards are not being met.
Recognise potential areas of conflict, preventing where
possible and reporting to senior members of staff if unable to resolve.
Undertake any new training necessary to maintain and update
existing skills.
Undertake any new training necessary to improve patient care
or access, within the competencies of the HCA and appropriate to the role of
the senior HCA.
